We want to celebrate it by showing stories about different women in forestry worldwide.
The forestry sector is key to many countries’ economic, environmental, and social development, and women play a fundamental role. Women contribute significantly to the growth of this sector (formally and informally). They represent a significant portion of the workforce in the forestry industry (from nursery work to wood processing), are leaders in many research processes, and have extensive knowledge in biodiversity and forest management.
However, this work has often been invisibilized. In some areas, their salaries and working conditions are lower than men’s. Also, gender inclusion policies have not been promoted in the forestry sector of many countries, increasing this gap. For this reason:
Let’s talk about women in the forest sector!
2022 is the opportunity to show the world the stories about women in the forest sector, and we want to share the challenges that forestry women need to face in their daily day and inspire others. Let´s meet some inspiring women:

Gina Paola Gallo – Colombia
Forest Engineer, graduated from the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas, with more than ten years of experience in the environmental management of the territory, especially in the formulation processes of Basin Plans, in regional autonomous corporations and private companies.

Chepkemoi Milcah – Kenya
Forester and Environmental planning manager. MA in environmental planning and management from the University of Nairobi with experience in various conservation organizations. She has a great passion for nature and the field of conservation, be it wildlife, wetlands, or forestry.

Kaylee Serna Torres – Perú
Forest Engineer, Project Coordinator in Lima for Forestar Company in Peru. Leader of the portfolio of projects in Callahuanca and Barba Blanca, and Lima, empowering the skills of the producers with whom she works.

Diana Alexandra Lara – Colombia
Forest engineer, the founder of Huella Colibrí, an organization that raises awareness, environmentally empowers citizens and promotes food security.

Diana Vásquez Alzamora – Perú
Forest engineer, member of the of the Productive Landscapes team – Smithsonian’s Conservation Institute. Coordinator of the Catalyze Madre de Dios initiative. She has extensive experience in the Peruvian Amazon in governance, conservation, and management of natural resources in native communities and natural protected areas.

Sandra Milena Sanchez – Colombia
Forest engineer and General Manager of Ecoambiente Ingeniería S.A.S. She has a lot of experience in silvicultural management of urban trees and green zones and vegetation cover management in urban areas.
